Haynes Motor Museum

The Haynes International Motor Museum is dedicated to restore, retain and preserve motoring and motorcycling items of historical and cultural interest in England.

The museum is a charitable trust that relies on donations in order to maintain and restore the many automobiles and motorcycles under its roof.

East Coker Maritime Heritage Walk

This is a shorter walk (2.4 miles, 3.8 km) and takes you around the centre if East Coker, passing historic buildings and recalling the strong maritime connections of the village. It also passes St Michael’s Church and the Almshouses.

Park considerately and start at Helyar Arms (GrId Ref: ST541123)

If exiting the pub from the front entrance, turn right into Moor Lane, signposted Coker Moor ½ Mile. At the end of the lane, take the path signposted North Coker ½ Mile. This path widens into a stony track with views of the Cemetery Chapel and St Michael’s Church.

East Coker Farmland and Pastures Walk

This slightly longer walk (4.5 Miles, 7.2 km) crosses some of the most productive, yet still beautiful, farmland in this country. It extends into neighbouring Barwick Parish, from where there are excellent views of this lovely region. The wealth of flora, trees and hedgerows and the peacefulness of the countryside attract an abundance of wildlife. Depending upon the location, time of day and the season, look out for badgers, roe deer, bats, water voles, dormice, brown hare as well as many types of insects and birds.

Please note that some stiles on this walk can be impassable for larger dogs.

East Coker Parkland and Woodland Walk

This moderate walk (3.6 miles, 5.8 km) crosses some of the beautiful parkland surrounding Coker Court and also follows an ancient road through leafy woodland on the southern boundary of the parish.

It is marked in Dark Green on the Discover East Coker map and walkers should refer to OS Explorer Map 129 for more detail. Parks and Woodland paths can be muddy at times and waterproof footwear is advised.

Park considerably and start at the Village Hall (Grid Ref: ST537128)

Turn left into Halves Lane past the old Saw Mills buildings.

At the T junction turn right, signposted East Coker and Halstock. follow the footpath along the road as far as Hamstone Millennium Memorial Stone. There are views here towards the north of the Parish.
